The Miami Museum of Science in collaboration with Avocado, Pine Lake, and Redland Elementary Schools is underway with a project called Our Changing South Florida Ecosystems which will culminate in the celebration of Public Science Day 1999 on January 21, 1999.

Each school has their own homepage on which they will be posting activities related to the Florida Ecosystems. Their addresses are as follows: Avocado Elementary (http://avocado.dade.k12.fl.us), Pine Lake Elementary(http://plake.dade.k12.fl.us), and Redland Elementary (http://redland.dade.k12.fl.us).

This semester-long project involves student research of natural and human created factors which lead to changes in the local ecosystem, and the development of strategies to prevent or minimize damage to the natural environment.

Students are using traditional and on-line methods, including the World Wide Web site Ecolinks (http://www.miamisci.org/ecolinks), a resource of environmental information, ideas and research which was developed by the Miami Museum of Science along with educators and students participating in research projects at the museum.
