These hieroglyphics mean "Welcome to"
Students learned most of the information from Internet sites, books and even from parents who had vacationed in Egypt.
The students did a mummification experiment on apples. They predicted what would "mummify" the apples the best. They picked baking sode because they had learned that baking soda was close to Natron which the ancient Egyptians used in the embalming process. Our predictions did not prove to be true. A combination of baking soda, table salt and Epson salt did the best job of pulling the moisture from the apple.
The students each created a diorama of Ancient Egypt. As you can see, they worked very hard and created masterpieces!
The students pâpier machéd two students' bodies to create the form for our mummy. We then turned our adjoining room into a tomb fit for any pharaoh! The tomb walls were decorated with hieroglyphics, the Ba, Ka and Ra along with other dieties. We made flails, crooks, amulets, and canopic jars along with many other treasures to send into the next world with our class pharaoh.
At the conclusion of our unit, we had an Ancient Egypt feast and presentation. Students wore costumes, spoke about Ancient Egypt, served foods they had learned would grow along the banks of the River Nile and gave tours of our tomb to parents, family, teachers, classes, and other guests.
