Spiders

Field Observations

Our classes went on a nature walk in our schoolyard. Our purpose was to investigate the various types of life that "really" existed. Our primary places of study were the biome and the playground. Our students seemed to naturally group themselves together in groups of three and four.

They were excited as they enjoyed themselves moving from place to place in search of life. Some students were searching under rocks. Others could be seen gently turning over the leaves on small trees and bushes, so as to not disturb the attached life forms.

A group of students could be seen cheering on spiders as they raced up the walls on the side of our school building. Another group was clustered together examining abandoned snail shells by the fish pond. The students could be heard asking each other had the snails out grown their shells and how were they able to get new ones.

When we returned to our classes, we reviewed the various types of life forms that "really" existed. The students then drew and labeled pictures of life that they actually saw.
