Joyce
Joyce interned with Lunthitha Duthley, Data Manager at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Dominion Towers Complex center for OB/ GYN research. Lunthitha Duthley studies pregnancies for HIV/AIDS patients. The primary purpose of this research is to ensure that fewer children are infected with HIV after birth, through the introduction of various treatments which help decrease the mother's pre-birth viral load. Joyce also interned with Faith Doyle, who is a Registered Nurse at the Jackson Memorial Hospital. This research tests whether the intra-vaginal MISO pill is better than a D+C, which is the normal procedure for cleansing the mother's reproductive system after the occurrence of a miscarriage, This cleansing also helps prevents cervical infections.
