Gerda

 Gerda Pierre interned with Dr. JoNell Efantis Potter, Director of OB/Gyn Research & Special Projects, Lunthita Duthely, Data Manager of OB/Gyn Research & Special Projects, at the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine. Their study specializes in tracking data from HIV positive expectant mothers. The primary purpose of this research is to ensure that fewer children are infected with HIV after birth, through the introduction of various treatments, which help decrease the mother's pre-birth viral load. Gerda’s responsibilities included tracking patient’s medical history for further analysis, pulled data from patients’ medical record, attended meeting with Dr. Potter, observed Dr. Potter during her rounds, delivered books to pediatric patients, and monitored patient visitation information. Gerda became CITI certified in the first few weeks of her internship. She viewed labor and deliveries during the last week of her internship. |
