MiaSci’s Tony Lima Named a Miami Fellow by The Miami Foundation

Tony Lima, vice president of marketing, communications and sales at Miami Science Museum, has been recently named a Miami Fellow by the Miami Foundation for a Greater Miami.

As a member of the foundation’s Miami Fellows Class VI, Tony will particpate in a 15-month intensive program where he and the other members of his class will have the opportunity to learn from established community leaders, to further develop their own abilities and to increase their community impact individually and as a class. Miami Fellows will also have the opportunity to visit another country as a class in July 2012 and gain some experience working in a foreign country. The Miami Fellows Class VI is comprised of 18 professionals with a proven track record in their field, all ranging in age from 26 to 38 of varied racial and ethnic backgrounds.

“I was honored and extremely excited when I heard that I’d been named a Miami Fellow,” said Tony. “When I saw the caliber of people who are in my class, I was thrilled. They’re an amazing group of people and I can’t wait to take this prestigious journey with them.”

Since 2007, Tony has spearheaded the marketing and communications campaigns for the present museum as well as the new museum project at Museum Park. In 2008, Tony founded and launched the museum’s young professionals group, the MiaSci Young Patrons. Since the inception of this original ambassador group, Tony and his team have added the MiaSci Moms, MiaSci Teens and a teacher’s group to the effort. These ambassador groups represent the museum at the community level, on social media and beyond with initiatives that help support the museum’s goals and objectives.

Before joining the museum, Tony was account group supervisor for GolinHarris, where he led the Miami office’s consumer brands practice and the agency’s Hispanic capabilities practice at a national level. Some of the successful marketing campaigns that he oversaw were for major corporations such as CVS/Pharmacy, Levi’s, Staples, and Toyota, among others.

While working for GolinHarris, Tony was also instrumental in the opening of Titanic: the Artifact Exhibition for the Miami Science Museum and the national tour of the King Tut and The Golden Age of the Pharaohs exhibit for the Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale. Additionally, Tony held marketing posts with Northern Trust Bank and the Performing Arts Center Foundation. Tony is an active volunteer with SAVE Dade, the National Arts Marketing Project and sits on committees with the Florida Association of Museums and the Downtown Development Authority.
