Molecular Meals

Where does food come from? It can grow from trees, come up from the ground, or from animals. In the Molecular Meals Summer Camp, kids learned about where everyday food comes from, and how the chemistry of foods like fats and proteins changes when you cook them. One day, they learned how proteins from animal bones can transform into a yummy dessert like Jello. They saw how the camp instructor boiled the bones to extract a protein called collagen, and at the end of the day, knowing what they now knew about where Jello comes from, the wide-eyed kids enjoyed a cup of cherry Jello.
