More than a million visitors throughout the US and Canada have enjoyed this remarkable 5,000 square-foot bilingual exhibition, where visitors embark on a voyage along the most biologically diverse river system in the world and encounter creatures worthy of legend, including piranhas, anacondas, caimans, stingrays and pink dolphins.

“The Amazon is simply one of the most incredible and biologically diverse places on Earth, so it’s been a privilege that our exhibition has been enjoyed by so many folks in so many places.” says Sean Duran, the Museum’s Vice President for Exhibitions and Design, and creator of Amazon Voyage, who visited the region several times during the development of the exhibition. “Visitors are fascinated by these legendary creatures, and that gives us a chance to engage them in considering the social and economic challenges facing the Amazon’s future, as seen through the eyes of the people who live there and the scientists who work and study there. Using such a great setting as a vehicle for science literacy is at Amazon’s core, but bringing greater awareness of the region and the value of biodiversity is important for everyone”.
The exhibition features artwork by Ray Troll, noted for his humorous but always scientifically accurate depictions of fish. It was developed with competitive funding from the National Science Foundation.
