The Smithsonian Institution. The Smithsonian Institution was established in 1846 with funds bequeathed to the United States by James Smithson, an English scientist. The Smithsonian is an independent trust instrumentality of the United States holding some 140 million artifacts and specimens in its trust for "the increase and diffusion of knowledge."The Smithsonian is composed of sixteen museums and galleries and the National Zoo and
numerous research facilities in the United States and abroad.
The Field Museum of Natural History. The Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, Illinois, is an educational institution concerned with the diversity and relationships in nature and among cultures. It provides collection-based research and learning for greater public understanding and appreciation of the world in which we live. Its collections, public learning programs and research are inseparably linked to serve a diverse public of various ages, background and knowledge.

Science Learning Network. The Miami Museum of Science is a member of The Science Learning Network (SLN) Alliance. Funded by the National Science Foundation and Unisys Corporation, the SLN seeks to provide meaningful Internet explorations and resources for science educators. Six science centers throughout the United States participate in bringing the power of Internet resources to the science classroom in a realistic, inquiry-based way.
The Computer Museum.
Located on Boston's waterfront, The Computer Museum includes The Networked Planet (TM)--a new gallery on the Information Highway. The Computer Museum is also building an On-Line Museum. Watch for it to open at this URL in March, 1996. When it does, this Web site will be replaced by the new On-Line Museum.
Historical Museum of Southern Florida Our good neighbors in downtown Miami, the Historical Museum of Southern Florida the only museum solely dedicated to the history of southern Florida and the Caribbean region. Founded in 1940 as a nonprofit, educational organization and accredited by the American Association of Museums since the late 1970s, the museum is located in the heart of Miami, in the Philip Johnson-designed Metro-Dade Cultural Center, also home to the Center for the Fine Arts and the Miami-Dade Public Library main branch.
