Welcome to ECHOS!

ECHOS is a collection of hands-on, interactive science lessons that are:

  • designed for small groups of preschool children
  • aligned to early childhood standards
  • scripted to facilitate guided inquiry
  • building blocks for critical thinking

ECHOS is built on the E-I-E-I-O Learning Framework

  • Excite... to spark curiosity and wonder
  • Introduce... the investigation
  • Explore... to deepen understanding
  • Interact... as needed to respond to individual strengths and needs
  • Outcomes... observe evidence of learning

ECHOS Professional Development

  • is designed for early childhood teachers, paraprofessionals,
    and volunteers
  • is research based
  • includes hands-on exploration of materials
  • deepens understanding of science concepts
  • expands understanding of inquiry and inquiry teaching strategies

ECHOS Research Project

  • is a collaboration between the Miami Science Museum, the University of Miami and the Miami-Dade County Community Action Agency’s Head Start Program
  • is funded by the Institute of Education Sciences, US Department of Education
  • will expand the comprehensive early science readiness curriculum and professional development program for teachers of preK-K students
  • will investigate the potential efficacy of the ECHOS curriculum, teacher professional development program, and related assessment tools as a vehicle for improving teacher practice and student achievement in science
