Hey Ya'll !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is Carolyn here and this is my page on the WILD program (now called the South Florida Water Management program.) Let me tell you a little about this program. The program is at the Miami Museum of Science in the heart of Coral Gables, Florida. We go out and have field trips. For example: the Seaquarium, Bayside, kayaking in Biscayne Nat'l Park, etc...

We are a group of 22 young adults and 2 mentors. Our mentors are Jennifer Schooley and Omar Abdelrahman. They are so totally cool. Oh yeah, we also have 2 aids, and they are Peter Allende and Veronica Gonzalez. They helped me with this web site and some others. Anyways, I have had so much fun in this program! For the summer, eight of the students are chosen to work with our new mentor Houtan Sareh to continue indepth field research and laboratory work.

The main purpose of this program was to do experiments in the Florida Bay dealing with terrapins, bald eagles, and ospreys. These tests were to determine 21 chemicals in these animals. They range from mercury all the way to their cholesterol. The water in the Everglades has indicated many vital statistics in the blood and cultures that we have taken from them. We took turns going down to Florida Bay and working with Greta Parks and Brian Mealey. They helped us understand why this research that we were conducting was so important to the future ecosystems of South Florida.

W.I.L.D. is a unique and wonderful program. Its results will be everlasting and will encourage the future youth of the world to conserve it's wildlife and plant life (flora and fauna.) Remember the WORLD AROUND YOU RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
