Galo Aguirre

Hi my name is Galo Aguirre, and I was a participant of the M.U.S.T. program for the '96-'97 sessions. M.U.S.T. is basically a program for students who are intrested in computers and science. It introduces you to using Macintosh computers for presentations and using the basic programs to organize information. But that's only one part of the program. We also are immersed in an introduction of marine biology through snorkeling on nearby beaches. I was recruited at school through teacher recommendations. For about four weeks it was an alternating schedule of every other day working on the computers and working in local beach areas. I learned a lot on both fields, but I personally liked working on the computers better. I guess it was because I didn't snorkle too well.
At the end of MUST program, we were told that in a few weeks after school started, we would be invited in to another program where it would further our studies of marine biology and computer technollogy. The whole program would be called Youth Alive. I enrolled in that program and am currently in the Wild Life program, presently called South Florida Water Management. The goal of this program is basically to go out to florida bay and do research on different factors of three important wildlife species: bald eagles, ospreys, and diamond back terrapins. So far it has been pretty good work, except that I haven't been able to take many trips to Florida Bay or take up-close measurements of the wildlife. The time that I did go, I went to the keys and saw baby chicks of bald eagles and ospreys, but they were too young for us to take measurements. I would really like to not only research on the computer but also get the actual experience of working with wildlife. And as you can see, part of the program is to make a web page. That is all for now. Bye.
