Hi there! Welcome to the land of Nicola. Enter if you dare. Read on if you wish. Okay, enough with the nonsense! Hello, my name is Nicola. I am 13 years old and entering the 8th grade after the summer. So far, my summer vacation has been GREAT! How 'bout yourself? By the way, I attend Southwood Middle School Center for the Arts. I'm in the Magnet Drama program there.
RISE is an acronym for Raising Interest in Science and Engineering. I attend this program at the Miami Museum of Science. It's really neat. We learn the basics of engineering and apply our knowledge of science to the many projects that we do. The two main projects that we have gotten to work on are the linetracker and the electric car. We do this in teams.
I'm in the group Alpha. There are three others: Beta, Psi, and Delta. My group members are Danielle, Ana, and Kathy. In our groups we all have an assigned position and specific duties that come with them. I am the Project Engineer. I oversee our activities and help in any way possible. It's kind of like the job of a manager. I try to do the best I can. I attend another program during the week so it can be difficult.
We have finished our linetracker, which I took home and assembled. The function of the linetracker is to follow a black line on white paper by using infrared sensors. We had no problem making the linetracker operate as it was supposed to, however, it wouldn't track the line. Danielle worked on that and got it to work accordingly.
The electric car was our other project. I was unable to contribute to the making of it (due to my absence to be at another program), but Ana, Danielle, and Kathy worked very well together to get the job done. We also made a team webpage which you might like to see. And my other group members made a team journal. My group and I have worked very hard to make the best projects possible and hope that we will make worthy opponents against the other teams' linetrackers and cars. Wish us luck!!!!
