BUILDING A LINE
TRACKER
I. OBJECTIVE:
For this project, we will build a line tracker. A line
tracker is a electrical machine that solely trace a black line on a white
base.
II. EQUIPMENT:
- Screwdriver (+)(M2-3 size),
Screwdriver (-)(2-3 mm width)
- Diagonal Cutter, Long Nose Plier,
Penknife, Small Hammer
- AA Batteries, AA Battery Holder,
9V Battery, 9V Battery Snap

- Pinion Gear (8) (Small), Pinion

- M2.6x4 Screw (Black) (2pcs),
Flat Spur Gear (24) with Pinion (Small) (2pcs)

III. PROCEDURE:
1. WIRING:
- Insert the wires through the pipes.
- Insert the pipes with the wires into the pipe holder
and pass wires through the rear dome.
- Insert the pipes with the wires into the pipe holder.
- Insert the pipie holder with wires into the opening
of the rear dome.
2. MECHANICAL
ASSEMBLY:
- Attach pinion gear to motor. ( make 2 sets )
- Install motor into holder. ( make 2 sets )
- Insert the metal shafts and nuts.
- Assemble the front wheel.( make 2 sets )
- Assemble right side panel.
- Install the left side panel.
- Attach the side panel to the body panel.
- Assemble the sensor unit :
- assemble right and left side of sensor pipe , then
secure them with pipe stoppers.
- Insert wires from sensor board through dome stopper
, and sensor pipe.
- Install sensor dome.
- Insert the completed sensor unit into the front dome
, then secure it with a pipe stopper.
- Attach the rear dome to the side panels and install
PC Board.
- Connect the wires from the sensor unit to the PC Board
unit , then attach the front dome.
- Install the battery holders to both sides of the panel.
- Attach the motor holder to the side panels , castor
and battery cover , and wires to the motors.
IV. ANALYSIS:
We had problems of the gears. The solution is that
we made the gears tigher and the right wheel closer to the gears. Because
of the complication to open the completed line tracker, we accidently connected
the switch in reverse.
V. CONCLUSION:
In this project, we have learned how to build a line
tracker. Although there are minor problems occured, we finally made the
line tracker work well. We also have learned that if the gear did not connect
to each other closely, the tracker will spin around a circle.
