Girls R.I.S.E. is a science and engineering program that gives girls experience in different fields of engineering. Most engineers in the world are men, this gives girls a chance to become engineers.
At this point in R.I.S.E. we are building electric cars and line trackers. The electric cars are not cars that we actually drive, or cars that are controlled by a remote control. These cars are run by batterey only; no members of our team are allowed to touch the car, once it's on the starting line.
A line tracker is a robot that follows a black line drawn on white paper. This robot is very amazing. The line tracker comes in a kit with instructions on how to put it together. This may seem like an easy task, but if one wire is not connected properly, the whole thing will not function. This soon becomes a very difficult task.
After the line tracker and car are built we have to compete with the other teams in our program. We have to give both projects to the judges a half hour before the competition. When it comes time to compeetition, one group will put their car on the starting line. The car has to be able tyo carry a weight and go up a slope. Each car goes one at a time. It's timed to see how fast it can finish the course. The winner will be the car that carries the weight and goes the fastest.
The line tracker will also be in the competition. There will be a course drawn with a black marker which the line tracker has to follow. Which ever line tracker does this the best will win.
