I were selected as one of the mentor for the girl R.I.S.E program which was organized by Wendie James, Project Director at the Miami Museum of Science. As a mentor, my duty is to help young girl from 7th to 9th grade in understading more about Engineering. Sometimes, we make fieldtrips to engineering industry to learn about their actual activities. Our main projects are the Line Tracker and the Electric Car. For the Line Tracker, I supervise the girls to assemble parts together. However, for the Electric car, the entire Beta group and I discuss and come up with different methods to design the most designable car. Other activities includes exploring the internet and chating with other professional to ask them about their real life work. I also explain and teach them how to connect series, parallel, open, and short circuits.

THINGS I HAVE LEARNED FROM THE GIRLS:

I have learned that the only way to know more about the girls is to talk and to be closed to them personally. Lot of time, I use to sit and watch the things they were working and show the better ways to do them.

THINGS I HAVE LEARNED FROM THE GIRL RISE PROGRAM:

There are so many things I have learned from the girls RISE program. Particularly, I have learned how to use many different softwares in Mac. computer which I have never have any experience on. I now know how to build an electric car which I have never done. I especially love to pass on my experience to young girls so that they will better off in the future.
