We have a variety of clubs, organizations and sports that enable us to have different extracurricular activities. Our school was just remodeled so it has a different look.
Girls R.I.S.E.
The Girls R.I.S.E. program is a program sponsored by the National Science Foundation. R.I.S.E. stands for Raising Interest in Science and Engineering. Girls R.I.S.E. consists of (you guessed it) girls. Girls RI.S.E. is two year long program. In this program the girls are taught about a variety of items. These things include science, engineering, computers, teamwork, and technology. At the end 24 students are given a stipend. This stipend is $400.
Experience in R.I.S.E.
I have experienced several things in Girls R.I.S.E. These things has broaden my knowledge about computers, science, engineering and teamwork. In this program I have experienced a variety of things. These things include doing computer applications, doing hands-on activities, speaking to female engineers, and taking field trips to different places where engineers are needed. When doing computer applications, I did things such as browsing the internet, working with Adobe Photo Deluxe, working with ClarisWorks, and creating my own home page. The hands-on activities I did includes working with circuits, and building an electric car and launcher. During the program I also worked in a team. We had our differences but we managed to do the best the we could do. On several occasions I've spoken to several engineers. They were all confident and intellectual about what they did. I was able to tour the University of Miami's College of Engineering, Miami Lakes Cordis Company(part of Johnson& Johnson), and Epcot in Orlando. Girls R.I.S.E. has been an unforgettable experience.
