As an introduction to the sophisticated 3D Studio Max software, girls spent the first several days of the 4-week summer design institute engaged in hands-on geometry challenges, allowing them to come to grips with measurement, metric units, tessellations, and a variety of geometric shapes.
Girls worked in teams to design and develop their virtual reality projects, creating exciting 3D worlds that reflected their interests, including such masterpieces as a futuristic amusement park, a very haunted house, and a Smart-Mall
At the end of each session, the girls’ family and friends were invited to the Museum for a multi-media presentation featuring the girls’ projects. Upon completion of each phase of the program, girls received a stipend in the amount of $150.
To strengthen their communication skills, girls presented their work to Museum visitors, explaining their choice of topic, the research behind their project, and the process used to build their virtual exhibit.
