The Florida International University's International Hurricane Research Center's consists of four main areas of research, including wind engineering, coastal, social science, and insurance, financial, and economic.
The WOW Factor
Since 2005, the Wall of Wind (WOW) at Florida International University has grown from a 2-fan prototype to a 12-fan engineering marvel. The WOW is used to test how different building designs and materials will hold up in a storm. When its motors are ramped up to 700 horsepower, the12-fan WOW can simulate Category 5 winds (greater than 157 mph, 253 km/hr).
