How to demonstrate the movement of water molecules in waves.
What procedures would you need to do this experiment ?
1. Blow up balloon to the size of a lemon.
2. Combined the balloon to a rock with a 18 inch length of string.
3. Fill the bathtub with water about 6 inches.
4. Place the rock in the center of the bathtub. After placing the rock in
the bathtub, the balloon should be floating with string about 6 inches of
extra string to allow it to move easy away from the rock.
5. Further away from the balloon at the end of the bathtub, move your
hands back and forth about 30 seconds to form water waves.
6. While the balloon is floating observe what happens.

What are the results of this experiment ?
The balloon moves in a circular direction while the rock is still sunk.
The water waves moves forward, but water molecules are actual moving up and down in a circular direction. The movements of floating objects would have the diameter of the orbit equal to the height of their waves.
