(0.71 - 1.2 m).
Diet and Habitat: These lizards live on dry
rocky ground among cactuses and thorny bushes. These shy, agile
creatures live in burrows and feed almost entirely on plants
and berries. They tend to begin life as carnivores and shift
to being herbivores as adults. The rhinoceros iguana is an endangered
species because of the destruction of its habitat and the
introduction of unnatural predators. Dogs, cats, mongoose, pigs,
goats and rabbits pose the greatest threat to survival of the
rhinoceros iguana in its natural environment.
