Distribution: Solomon Islands.
Size: May reach up to 32 in. (81 cm).
Diet and Habitat: It is the largest species
of skink. Unlike other skinks, it is completely arboreal, herbivorous
and lacking the ability to detach its tail as a defensive mechanism.
It is fitted with a long prehensile tail, strong limbs, and long
claws for life in tropical rain forest trees. It feeds mainly
on the leaves of the Solomon Islands creeper plant and uses its
prehensile tail as an extra appendage! However, the prehensile-tailed
skink does not have tail autonomy, the ability to break its tail
if caught by a predator.
