Distribution: Northern India, southern China,
Taiwan, Hainan, Nepal, Burma, Thailand, Malaysia Cambodia, Laos,
Vietnam and the Indo-Malayan area.
Size: 24 - 35 in. (60 - 90 cm)
Diet and Habitat: These venomous snakes live
in low trees and bushes along waterways. They often descend to
the ground at night to hunt for small mammals and amphibians,
particularly frogs. Most snakes simply hatch from the "leathery"
eggs deposited by their mothers. However, some snakes, like the
white-lipped viper, are ovoviviparous. This means that the female
keeps her "soft" eggs within her body until they hatch.
