Sunday, October 5, 2014
1pm – 3pm

During the first Sunday of every month, join the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science for a special experience. Meet and greet with local scientists who are experts in a variety of fields, including marine biology, climate and weather, software engineering, the brain, primatology, the ocean, and much more. Trained through the Museum’s Science Communication Fellows Program, these scientists developed exciting hands-on activities for visitors to discover what they do and why it is so important.

This month’s featured scientists are:
Ashley Campbell, Graduate Student at Florida Atlantic University
Ashley’s research will take to the island Roatan in Honduras to discover the unique wonders of the Roatan Spiny-tailed Iguana.  Join in with finding and counting the hidden iguanas across the island and learn about how biologists study this important reptile.

Theresa Strazisar, Graduate Student at Florida Atlantic University
Theresa is studying a species of seagrass called wigeongrass in the southern Everglades, where she goes out into the field to take measurements of this important ecological feature. Become the scientist and make predictions on how much widgeongrass will grow at multiple sites, then see if you got it right with real measurements.

Meredith Jennings, Graduate Student at University of Miami, RSMAS
Meredith’s research focuses on better understanding the carbon cycle in the ocean. Create your own carbon particle and test your skill at sinking to the bottom of the ocean.
