Take part in free Science Saturdays, year-round at the Miami Museum of Science. Enjoy making a mess in the name of science, using new and exciting computers and software, and exploring the Museum from Astronomy to Zoology.Starting in 2000, workshops will also include outings to local science-rich sites, accompanied by museum educators.

Workshops begin at 10:00 a.m. Check in at the Member Services Box Office and stay until 6 p.m. exploring Museum exhibits, the Wildlife Center and Planetarium shows. Signing up is easy! Send e-mail to ptemino_bbbs@hotmail.com or call Patty Temiño of BBBS at 305-441-9354 ext. 223 to RSVP.

Learn about what defines a habitat as you hike and snorkel with Museum experts
through the homes of some of Key Biscayne's diverse wildlife. Snorkel equipment provided.

February 3
Farming and Food Production
Learn where the food you eat comes from, track its trip to your
table and spice up your future meals by planting your own herb garden.

The Science of Crime
Explore the Miami Police Museum to learn how detectives
and investigators solve crimes using advanced science and the power of observation.

April 14
Florida's Fabulous Fish
Cast a line and a net and wait for a nibble while learning about some
of South Florida's native fish, what they eat, and what eats them! Fishing equipment provided.

May 5
Kitchen Math and Chemistry
Two of Miami's celebrated chefs will help us plan a meal, take us shopping and show us how to prepare the foodall this while learning a bit of math and chemistry and having a bite to eat!

June 9
Sun, Stars & Summer Solstice (Evening Event)
Celebrate the summer solstice and learn about the upcoming solar eclipse. At the observatory we will see planets and stars through powerful telescopes and round out the evening with a laser light show.

July 7
Wind and Sail (Evening Event)
Instructors from Shake-A-Leg share tips and techniques for smooth sailing on this nautical event. Discover how the boat is designed to use wind as its powerful energy source.

August 4
Wild Weather
Hurricanes are big news in South Florida! Visit a weather center to learn
how weather data is collected and how the professionals track and predict storms.

September 29
Miami's Working River
Navigate the waters of the Miami River on a tour boat, while listening to experts discuss the shipping industry and taking part in a water lab complete with microscopes, pH and filtering kits.

October 26
Parent Halloweenie Camp-In
Grab your child, pack a blanket and pillow and spend an exciting night with a feast of microscopic and wild beasts. Be amazed this Halloween as you peer through a microscope, gaze through a telescope and meet live reptiles and birds from our Wildlife Center.

Directions

The Museum is located at 3280 South Miami Avenue. From the north, take I-95 to Exit 1. After the exit ramp, turn left. Then turn right onto South Miami Avenue. The Museum is on the right, across from Vizcaya. From the south, take US-1. Just before I-95, turn right at the giant sloth sculpture. The Museum is conveniently located near the Vizcaya Metrorail station, and is accessible via Metrobus routes 12, 17, 24 and 48.
