AT&T Awards 2008 Aspire Grant in the amount of $398,214 to Miami Science Museum for Youth Programs in Academic Enrichment

AT&T Check Presentation to Miami Science Museum
November 8th 2008
Marshall Criser III, Florida President of AT&T, and J. Don Sadler, Area Director External Affairs, visited the Museum to present their Aspire grant award in the amount of $398,214. Receiving the check on behalf of the Museum were Board Co-Chairs Trish and Dan Bell, and Sheldon Roy, Senior Vice President of Development. The presentation reception in the Museum's Theater was attended by students together with their parents. The students participate in the Museum's Upward Bound Math & Science Center program, which provides academic enrichment opportunities to low-income, first generation college-bound students, exposing them to the world of post-secondary study, and inspiring and preparing them to complete high school, enroll in college, and engage in pathways toward science, math and technology careers.
The Museum has an overall success rate among participants of 95% graduation from college. The program received the 2005 Presidential White House Award for Excellence In Mathematics, Science, and Engineering Mentoring. The AT&T grant will allow the Museum to expand this program to additional students and to add a much needed counseling component.
