Bright Green Youth

Selection Process and Criteria for Participation in the Bright Green Youth (BGY) Project

To be considered for the opportunity, student must:

  • Have a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Have taken at least one chemistry and one biology class
  • Be enrolled in 10th or 11th grade during the 2008-2009 academic year
  • Have a demonstrated interest in sustainable solutions advancing progress and growth (for example: a science fair project, an internship)
  • Demonstrated leadership amongst his/her peers and be prepared to make a difference regarding climate challenges
  • Exemplary speaking and writing skills
  • Ability to gain permission from your parents/guardians, obtain a valid passport and leave the country

AND

Compose a three-page essay about one of the following topics:

  1. Why is it imperative that we act now?

  2. What can decision makers do to redress climate changes?

  3. What can I do to reduce CO2 emissions?

* Make sure your essay is double spaced, 12 point, Times font

When writing your essay, you may want to also write about...

  • What have you already done that is related to climate changes or increasing awareness in these topics?
  • What changes in the environment will your specific actions make in 20 years, 50 years, or 100 years?
  • How can you act as a leader in your community to help others make similar changes in their daily lives in working towards protecting the environment?
