Dino Day 2007

Have you ever imagined what it would be like to eat like a Mamenchisaurus? How about fight like a Shunosaurus? Your chance to prove your dino savvy has arrived! Join us on November 17th, 2007 at the Miami Science Museum for a prehistoric extravaganza: DINO DAY.

Take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity to learn and experience what it was like to be one of these gargantuan, yet sophisticated creatures. If you are ready to travel back in time, then bring your whole family and friends to enjoy a day of hands-on activities, competitions, prizes and more!

Contests

Eat Like a Dino (herbivore and carnivore)
Prove your dino chops as a herbivore, the Mamenchisaurus, or as a carnivore, the Sinraptor. This is your opportunity to pig-out dino style!

Schedule:

1:30 p.m.   Age 12 and under eating competition
                  (herbivores/carnivores competing simultaneously)
2:00 p.m.   Age 13 and over eating competition
                  (herbivores/carnivores competing simultaneously)
2:30 p.m.   City Role Models/Celebrity eating competition
                  (herbivores/carnivores competing simultaneously)
3:00 p.m.   Awards

Registration:

- Registration is limited to 15 contestants for each category

  • Category 1: herbivores 12 and under
  • Category 2: carnivores 12 and under
  • Category 3: herbivores 13 and over
  • Category 4: herbivores 12 and under

- Registration will begin promptly at 10 a.m. on November 17th

Dino Roar Competition Rules

Pre Competition Rules:
Complete entries include:

  • The name of the dinosaur you are imitating (paleontologically accurate)
  • A 100 word description of your dinosaur. This should include research regarding the sounds it would make and the physiology/anatomy of your dinosaur. Make sure to include your name, age, grade and school.

You will be judged on two components:

  • Science (call type, call quality and an explanation of why this ROAR would come out of the chosen dinosaur)
  • Creativity (presentation of your mechanism-don't be afraid to make it bright, furry, shiny, etc)

- Every team/individual must pre-register by Friday November 16th at 5 PM

  • Age (of all people in the team or individual)
  • Grade (of all people in the team or individual)

Competition Day:

- Make sure to be at the museum no later than 12 PM (noon)
- Check in with the greeters in the front lobby
- The competition will last from 12:30-1:30
- You will present your description to the crowd, show the best roar you’ve got, then answer questions from the judges (feeding the judges to velociraptors will disqualify your team!)
- The aROARd ceremony will immediately follow the competition to recognize our best roarers
