Professional Development

Are you an early childhood specialist? A K-12 educator? School administrator? University professor? Professional development opportunities at the Museum are designed to provide educators at all levels with opportunities to deepen content knowledge and strengthen pedagogy in many areas of science and technology integration. Our hands-on, inquiry-based half-day and full-day workshops address state and national learning standards, and allow you to work at your own pace.

Current Projects

    • Y.E.S.
      Y.E.S. is funded by a grant from The Children’s Trust. It is a partnership with the City of Miami (Heart of Our Parks), Shake-a-leg and Arts for Learning, and the Miami Science Museum. The museum offers technology based science interactive activities for elementary and middle school children at five city parks (Duarte, Shenandoah, Jose Marti, African Square, and Williams) that draws a population of underserved at-risk kids.

    • Florida Leaders.net
      A statewide educational leadership initiative of the Florida Department of Education designed to provide Florida's school leaders with support in incorporating school-wide technology planning as a part of the school improvement planning process.

    • Palm Education Training Provider
      The Miami Science Museum is proud to be designated as an authorized Palm Education Training Provider. We are Palm Certified Trainers with expertise in the Palm OS® and years of personal experience as K-12 educators and administrators.

    • ProbeScience™ Learning Kit
      ProbeScience kits developed by the Technology Trainer Enhancement Center (T-TEC) at the Miami Science Museum combine the best elements of effective science learning with the latest in handheld computer technology to provide teachers and students with exciting hands-on scientific exploration and research that support and incorporate the National Science Standards.

    • SpaceOLE
      Welcome to SpaceOLÉ! We challenge you and your team to explore cyberspace, talk to experts, and learn as much as you can about your celestial body. Use your mission packets to learn more about what you and your team must do. Then bring your findings to the SpaceOLE Summit and convince us that it's possible for humans to survive there.


Past Projects

      • SUCCEED
        School University Community Coalition for Excellence in Education

        A partnership with the University of Miami's College of Arts and Sciences, School of Education and Miami-Dade Public School System seeks to prepare teachers to meet the demands of 21st Century classrooms. The Museum's role in this five-year project (1999-2004) is to provide hands-on technology integration training for prospective teachers, inservice teachers and professors in residence. Funded by the US Department of Education.

      • START
        Project START, a PT3 Catalyst grant, provides higher education arts and science and education faculty in six south eastern states (Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, and South Carolina) with tools and training to help prepare tomorrow's teachers to integrate technology-rich learning resources into the science curriculum.
