Box Office Attendant (Posted November 29th, 2012)
SUMMARY: The Box Office Attendant, as the first staff member seen by the visitor, is responsible for setting the tone of the Museum visit by greeting visitors, charging the correct entry fee, answering their inquiries, and assisting in resolving difficulties.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Follows procedures established by the Finance Department
• Attends shift meeting in order to be knowledgeable of events, groups and schedules to be followed in the Museum that day
• Responsible for answering telephone lines during Box Office hours
• Demonstrates knowledge of the Museum, including exhibits, science demonstrations and shows
• Is knowledgeable of Museum’s show schedule for the day
• Verifies that there are sufficient handouts available for the day, including daily schedule, Museum Guide, etc.
• Welcomes all Museum visitors with a smile
• Inquires about the visitor’s needs & answers visitor’s inquiries.
• Is knowledgeable about and promotes Museum membership
• Informs the visitor about the Museum’s bilingual signage and bilingual exhibit guides available at the Greeter’s Desk
• Verifies that every visitor receives a wristband, sticker or guest pass
• Highlights shows or demonstrations happening in the next hour, including any Planetarium shows
• Is responsible for Lost & Found, following Museum guidelines
• Acknowledges visitor complaints and assists in resolving them through his/her own actions or by summoning a supervisor
• Reimburses visitor for change lost in vending machines
• Acts as the central communication point for emergency situation management
• Adjusts to Department scheduling needs by working a flexible workweek that may include weekends, evenings and holidays
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned, including cross-training in the Museum Store and other Visitor Services duties.
• Follow up on unpaid group invoices.
• Distribute and coordinate with other box office employees’ new procedures and information daily.
• Keep track of people visiting the museum as guest (sign in/out sheet) and who they are visiting etc.
• Keep track of supplies inventory for box office, alerting management the need for re-order in a timely manner.
MINIMUM JOB/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
High school graduate or equivalent. 1-2 years of experience in cash handling and customer service. Bilingual English and Spanish.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of handling cash.
• Skill in customer service.
• Skill in adapting to visitors’ needs and demands.
• Skill in attending to detail.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish with visitors.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Work is normally performed in an interior office environment, using light physical effort, with little or no exposure to physical risk.
