Energy Tracker

The Miami Science Museum is in the process of designing a state-of-the-art new building downtown at Museum Park. Beyond the aquarium, planetarium, and hands-on interactives, the building itself will serve as a giant exhibit on energy efficiency and renewable energy. Energy Tracker is an exhibit that the Museum is developing now in order to prototype energy-related components and delivery strategies for the new building. With components distributed throughout the current facility, indoors as well as outside, Energy Tracker will allow visitors to explore energy from its basic principles to the renewable ways we harness and use it today.

While the first two ‘tracks’ are still under construction, some of the main components are already in place, including the Energy Dance Floor, the first of its kind in the US. The floor captures energy from visitors’ dancing and converts it to electricity, which is used to power special lighting effects.

The space includes a thermal camera linked to a large display screen, where visitors can see energy escaping from their bodies in the form of heat as they dance and jump around.
Other Energy Tracker attractions include the Human Yo-Yo and the Giant Lever, both already available for visitors’ enjoyment.

Check out these attractions now, and then come back later for the full Energy Tracker experience!
