Wanya was born in the Northside of Philadelphia. His parents names are Carla Morris and Dallas Thornton. Wanya mother Carl Morris and father Dallas Thornton never married. They broke up when he was young. Wanya has two sisters and one brother.

Ever since Wanya was a young boy his family has encourage him to sing. In the begining Wanya had his mind set on drawing instead. "Everybody basically wanted me to sing, but at the same time, they wanted me to have something to fall back on. That wasn't the idea that I had. I wanted to draw, and actually drew for a little while. Eventually, my only career goal was to sing, and with the exception of art, I didn't want to do anything else."

When Wanya was young, his living conditions were not what every child dreamed off. Wnaya lived in the Richard Allen projects in Philadelphia for a couple of years. Then he and his family moved to Germantown. "In Germantown, the living conditions were not great at all." Wanya's childhood was not only filled with mental pain but also physical pain.

Ever since Wanya was young, he has always had a thing for getting people's attention. If anyone would ask him to sing, he would just sing. No matter where he was. If he was in public or not. He would sing anything anyone requested.

Wanya has always like to have fun, I would do all kinds of things to make the school year fun." But that eventually paid of on his grades. "The crazy thing was after awhile, I played so much that my homework didn't even matter to me anymore. By the time I found out that I should have been doing my homework, my grades were so bad that it was too late fro me to care." Wanya got expelled from the High School for Creative and Performing Arts. Wanya moved from school to school until he found Willingboro High School at which he stayed in until he graduated. After high school Wanya never went to college but my family wanted me to." And that is how Wanya Morris from Boyz II Men started his life.

Wanya's mother says that her son was singing within a few weeks from his return from the hospital after his birth. He would mimic songs that she would sing, and later in childhood, he would sing a capella versions of Stevie Wonder songs. He preformed in talented shows. Vibe calls him the "Playful Boy" Word Up!, the class clown." He's funny enough to have made at least one fan wet her pants.
