Shaving Cream Clouds

Concept:

There are three different types of clouds:

 Cirrus

 Cumulus

 Stratus

Materials:

Procedure:

  1. Fold a piece of blue construction paper equally into thirds, as you would a letter. Prepare one such sheet for each student.

  2. Display the cloud pictures for the children. Explain that the clouds do not always look the same. Tell the children that we will use shaving cream to make different types of clouds. Also tell them that even though real clouds are not made of shaving cream, sometimes they look like shaving cream, if you use your imagination.

  3. Give each child a piece of pre-folded blue paper. Spray a little puddle of shaving cream at each child's table space. Explain that they may use their fingers to paint clouds on the blue paper, with the shaving cream. Model on the chalkboard with shaving cream, different variations of cloud shapes and designs. The different cloud types for the children are as follows :

 Cirrus

 Cumulus

 Stratus
